Pet Permission
Pets in Our Homes: Guidelines for Tenants
At Caledonia Housing Association, we understand that pets can be a wonderful addition to your household, offering companionship and enhancing your quality of life. However, we also have a responsibility to ensure that all tenants can enjoy a safe, clean, and peaceful environment. To strike a balance between pet ownership and the wellbeing of the wider community, we ask that all tenants adhere to the following guidelines:
Permission for Pets
Before bringing a pet into your home, tenants must seek written permission from the housing association. This applies to all pets, including dogs, cats, and small animals like rabbits or birds. Requests for permission can be submitted via our Connect App or by submitting a Pet Permission Form.
General Rules
- Types of Pets: Permission is generally granted for common domestic pets.
- Control of Pets: Tenants are responsible for ensuring that their pets do not cause a nuisance or disturbance to neighbours. This includes preventing excessive noise, such as persistent barking, and ensuring that pets are always kept under control.
- Cleanliness: Pet owners must maintain a high standard of cleanliness within their property. Any pet waste must be disposed of responsibly. Additionally, tenants must ensure that common areas, such as stairwells and communal gardens, are kept clean and free of pet waste.
- Safety: Dogs must be kept on a lead in communal areas, and any potentially aggressive pets must be muzzled when outside the home.
- Registration: Owners must ensure that dogs are microchipped, as required by Scottish law
- XL Bully Dogs: There are specific rules around XL Bully dogs and further guidance for tenants on this can be found here
